Cosy Interiors

With days still rather dark and cold, we all seek cosiness in our homes.

Cosy can mean different things to different people and it’s important to uncover what that special something is that makes someone feel cosy and warm, to be able to provide appropriate design advice.

You may have an unused fireplace in your living room, that, with a little love, could be re-invigorated to roar and bring the sounds of rustling fire to you – ultimate cosiness, comfort and homeliness.

If you aren’t so lucky to have a fireplace, candles can be a great alternative. Large or several smaller candles can transform the light in a room, whilst scented options also infuse the air with a warm and enveloping smell. Combine this with a good book and a blanket, and your cosy micro-oasis is complete.

Artwork is another key element to make a space feel homely, and ultimately cosy. If you display a prized piece of art or even install a gallery wall in a room, you can transform the feel of the space. Bare walls are cold and impersonal, whereas carefully selected pieces of art can convey a mood and even provide insight into the inhabitants. The colours of your chosen art will also play a role in this, as darker or pastel colours will bring a warmer feel to the wall space, whereas colour blocking with pimary colours can often feel cooler.

However you choose to update your home to make it cosy, adding some softness and texture doesn’t have to break the bank and you don’t have to redesign your entire space. It does, however, make a big difference when it comes to how you perceive your living space. Textured, fluffy blankets and cushions, for example, can be layered to create a simple yet effective way to add a cosy feel to any room.

Should you take it that step further and upgrade some of your furniture, plump, curvy and plus-sized furniture is the ultimate comfort and is widely available these days. Even in smaller spaces, reduced size versions of the oversized furniture can be incorporated.

With Scandi trends like Hygge extremely popular today, take some time for yourself and create a space that makes you feel comfortable, relaxed and cosy.
